HIP Hop as a melodic kind has experienced a lot of progress In the substance of the music, yet the message passed on and what number of would state It has somehow or another characterized dark culture over the most recent 20 years. A lot of hip bounce music these days is outfitted towards painting this ridiculous picture of hyper-realism, sexism, and savagery that at last helps with hauling dark culture down, and the individuals in general. You see hip bounce specialists like 50 Cent and IllWayne who Is fortifying this thuggish persona, making music spun around cash and medications and It paints a dreary picture for youthful blacks. These youthful susceptible youth see along these lines of life as the standard, and the ghetto pathology seen as a bona fide piece of dark culture, despite the fact that it does simply disparage a large number of dark individuals. To begin at the underlying foundations of hip bounce anyway you can plainly observe that the message of the music was not to a dvance savagery, however to help control wrongdoing and show that its not marvelous. We will compose a custom paper test on The Influence of Hip Hop on the Black-American Culture or on the other hand any comparable point explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page During the sasss you had craftsmen Like Grand Master Flash, and Public Enemy who lectured dark strengthening, and left Imparting exercises that didnt obstruct yet permit dark culture to develop, just as confidence. This leads individuals to contemplating these days, what befell this once positive, canny music that characterized a race and culture? You have multi year old kids tuning in to indecent raps about sex, and prostitution, and for dark children in poor ghetto neighborhoods this dream driven music clamoring wrongdoing, is viewed as the sole voice for these youngsters at last view that way of life as the genuine way they ought to be acting. It Is as though hip bounce music Is as yet endeavoring to sell this Image of the wrongdoing life, in any event, when a large portion of the specialists have all the cash on the planet. Hip jump fundamentally switched the achievements of the dark network, camouflaging itself as relating a solid message yet simply covered in obliviousness and deceitfulness. So as to completely see how adversely hip bounces grasp on the dark culture has gotten you can see extraordinary dark performers before hip jump developed and see the change In Integrity.Black performe rs Like Louis Armstrong, and Nat King Cole rose during the Jim Crow time, a period of solid racial isolation, and soaring destitution rates in dark neighborhoods. It was these artists who were consistently on the bleeding edge of the battle for integration, and they had the option to be legends in a battle for equity, that was obvious through their music. Presently in an unmistakable difference to those compelling performers you have the hip bounce specialists of today who are abusing the wrongdoing and savage ways of life normal In there old networks. So there ho are rappers as well as straightforwardly identified with this fortification of dark stereotypes. These rappers are not effectively offer back to the network, as far as showing great ethics and exercises to avoid wrongdoing and go to class, however luxuriating in the music loaded up with oblivious pimp generalizations, and commending selling drugs. It would appear as though hip jump has taken dark culture back 100 years in the effect that it is making on the dark youth. The melodic feel of hip bounce music don't appear to exceed the through and through obscenity, and foulness loaded verses that includes cost hip jump tunes. To take a gander at a tune specifically take Los Angles rapper Ice T melody Cop Killer, where here raps got my dark shirt on.I got my dark gloves on. I got my ski veil on. This chits been excessively long. I got my 12-check sawed-off. I got my headlights killed. Im session to bust a few shots off. Im session to tidy a few cops off.. What does this say about dark individuals all in all, that they appreciate looking at executing cops, I would securely say no, yet as a voice for dark individuals and craftsman whose impact rules over dark in different positions no doubt way. The language utilized by Ice T in this melody specifically, and numerous other rap tunes, with profanity and compromising substance towards police, rival packs, or Just other people. With this enormous promotion of hip bounce music on a world range, with music recordings of these rappers blazing precious stone Jewelry, extravagant vehicles, and insufficiently dress ladies, they are detonated into a super fame. Despite the fact that there message through pugnacious, profane verses sells best. Presently it isn't reasonable for state that all hip bounce music depicts this equivalent message that evaluations dark culture, as there is certain hip jump. This positive hip jump returned to doing what artists like Louis Armstrong, and Nat King Cole were attempting to pass on through their music and that was dark empowerment. Now you can ask yourself what turned out badly, how did hip bounce music become the epitome of numbness in dark culture? The appropriate response is extremely straightforwa rd, when performers in the asss and asss were setting melodies out they were in a place of low status, and utilized positive refined music to ascend there height up. These days rap is doing the specific inverse, it is separating off what is a little segment of the dark populace living in neediness, around one fourth percent of the all out populace. Hip jump music has stooped the dark individuals to this savage race of hooligans and pimps and street pharmacists exclusively in light of the fact that that is all individuals hear and in particular find in the media. Presently me being a hip jump fan makes this contention a substantially more flighty conversation, as I dont tune in to a ton of the profane rap commending posse way of life and viciousness. You have numerous hip bounce devotees, makers, and learned people who see hip jump mercy, and the sexism towards ladies, as a progressive cry from a young that experienced hardships in the ghetto. That mostly bode well, the same number of hip jump specialists feel that that the music is essential to instruct those on the intense life effort to the adolescent in a manner they can see unmistakably. My musings anyway are solid on the establishment that hip bounce being the true cry of blacks is an articulate joke. Indeed, even as ahead of schedule as 40 years back blacks were experienci ng persecution much more regrettable than today, and craftsmen parading the mentality of an irate, brutal, defiant need man.Hip jump in my brain fills in as the main obstruction in the advancement of African Americans socially, and strategically. The numerous dedicated African Americans, who fill in as specialists and legal advisors, are being considered answerable for the general picture that individuals have of their kin through music that they don't even fundamentally discover charming. All in all, taking a gander at the condition of hip bounce you can see that it is as mainstream as could be, a great deal of the time individuals need to hear whats snappy, and not what has the most criticalness in encouraging feedback inside the verses of music.Hip jump music will keep on pushing this message of through and through carelessness of power, and it is deplorable to imagine that genuine darkness is characterized by that type of music. The main way that hip bounce can move to a constructive course, is when dark individuals stand firm and oppose the music and profane verses saying it isn't what a dominant part of them advance. What's more, until this is done, hip bounce will keep on humiliating dark individuals, and shoot there c ulture considerably progressively not far off until its totally past the point of no return.

So its not uncommon to see The Eight Steps for Curve Sketching, etc. Lets briefly review what each term means. More details can be found at AP Calculus Exam Review: Analysis of Graphs, for example. Step 1. Determine the Domain and Range The domain of a function f(x) is the set of all input values (x-values) for the function. The range of a function f(x) is the set of all output values (y-values) for the function. Methods for finding the domain and range vary from problem to problem. Here is a good review. Step 2. Find the y-Intercept The y-intercept of a function f(x) is the point where the graph crosses the y-axis. This is easy to find. Simply plug in 0. The y-intercept is: (0, f(0)). Step 3. Find the x-Intercept(s) An x-intercept of a function f(x) is any point where the graph crosses the x-axis. To find the x-intercepts, solve f(x) = 0. Step 4. Look for Symmetry A graph can display various kinds of symmetry. Three main symmetries are especially important: even, odd, and periodic symmetry. Even symmetry. A function is even if its graph is symmetric by reflection over the y-axis. Odd symmetry. A function is odd if its graph is symmetric by 180 degree rotation around the origin. Periodicity. A function is periodic if an only if its values repeat regularly. That is, if there is a value p 0 such that f(x + p) = f(x) for all x in its domain. The algebraic test for even/odd is to plug in (-x) into the function. If f(-x) = f(x), then f is even. If f(-x) = f(x), then f is odd. On the AP Calculus exams, periodicity occurs only in trigonometric functions. Step 5. Find any Vertical Asymptote(s) A vertical asymptote for a function is a vertical line x = k showing where the function becomes unbounded. For details, check out How do you find the Vertical Asymptotes of a Function?. Step 6. Find Horizontal and/or Oblique Asymptote(s) A horizontal asymptote for a function is a horizontal line that the graph of the function approaches as x approaches or -. An oblique asymptote for a function is a slanted line that the function approaches as x approaches or -. Both horizontal and oblique asymptotes measure the end behavior of a function. For details, see How do you find the Horizontal Asymptotes of a Function? and How do you find the Oblique Asymptotes of a Function?. Step 7. Determine the Intervals of Increase and Decrease A function is increasing on an interval if the graph rises as you trace it from left to right. A function is decreasing on an interval if the graph falls as you trace it from left to right. The first derivative measures increase/decrease in the following way: If f(x) 0 on an interval, then f is increasing on that interval. If f(x) 0 on an interval, then f is decreasing on that interval. Step 8. Locate the Relative Extrema The term relative extrema refers to both relative minimum and relative maximum points on a graph. A graph has a relative maximum at x = c if f(c) f(x) for all x in a small enough neighborhood of c. A graph has a relative minimum at x = c if f(c) f(x) for all x in a small enough neighborhood of c. The relative maxima (plural of maximum) and minima (plural of minimum) are the peaks and valleys of the graph. There can be many relative maxima and minima in any given graph. Relative extrema occur at points where f(x) = 0 or f(x) does not exist. Use the First Derivative Test to classify them. This graph increases, reaching a relative maximum, then decreases into the relative minimum, and finally increases afterwards. Step 9. Determine the Intervals of Concavity Concavity is a measure of how curved the graph of the function is at various points. For example, a linear function has zero concavity at all points, because a line simply does not curve. A graph is concave up on an interval if the tangent line falls below the curve at each point in the interval. In other words, the graph curves upward, away from its tangent lines. A graph is concave down on an interval if the tangent line falls above the curve at each point in the interval. In other words, the graph curves downward, away from its tangent lines. Heres one way to remember the definitions: Concave up looks like a cup, and concave down looks like a frown. The second derivative measures concavity: If f(x) 0 on an interval, then f is concave up on that interval. If f(x) 0 on an interval, then f is concave down on that interval. Step 10. Locate the Inflection Points Any point at which concavity changes (from up to down or down to up) is called a point of inflection. Any point where f(x) = 0 or f(x) does not exist is a possible point of inflection. Look for changes in concavity to determine if these are actual points of inflection. This graph shows a change in concavity, from concave down to concave up. The inflection point is where the transition occurs. Final Thoughts This short article only outlines the steps for accurate curve sketching. Now its up to you to familiarize yourself with the various methods and tools that will help you to analyze the graph of any function.

Technology and Art Essay - 1275 Words

Technology and Art Many centuries ago, art was rendered inaccessible by the masses and was reserved for the few high society members who had the means of access to appreciate history in the making. Through the use of technology, art has been made hugely accessible by the ability to trade media forms, mainly through the Internet and other technological means. Much like the printing press was for literature with Gutenberg in 1445, technology has heightened art and moreover, the expression of it. Technology has enhanced art through the main use of graphics, both computer and animation, the communication of it, and musically it has enhanced the quality and distribution. Computer graphics have come a long way since the days of â€Å"Pong† and â€Å"Tetris† and has now been developed and advanced to an art form with the specific examples of Japanese Anime and Disney animation now becoming mainstreams. Using Data Analysis For Mixed Methods - 2029 Words

There are many general guidelines that can help researchers in mixed methods designs to conduct an effective data analysis. Data analysis strategy depends on the type of mixed methods design. Creswell (2007) suggested number of essential considerations should be in account when conducting mixed methods data analysis: 1. The analysis strategy should be used in order to answer the research question(s) being asked. The questions are different according to the research design as discussed earlier in this paper. 2. Data analysis approach will relate to either concurrent data analysis (Triangulation and embedded designs) or sequential data analysis (Explanatory, exploratory, and embedded designs). As discussed before, data may be merged or embedded in concurrent approach and connected or embedded in sequential approach. 3. In the concurrent approach, the analyses of quantitative and qualitative date are done separately, while in sequential approach the analysis of the first step of the stu dy is used to inform the second step. For example, in sequential approach, if the first phase is qualitative design, then data analysis and the findings will guide data collection in the second phase (e.g., quantitative phase). 4. Due to lack of available software for concurrent or sequential approaches, matrix or discussion can be useful for comparing the results from qualitative and quantitative data in concurrent approach. 5. Napoleon An Enlightened Despot - 1597 Words

Kevin McKenzie Mrs. Drogos AP European History November 15 2014 Napoleon: An Enlightened Despot Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was undeniably profound in helping to restore order to France following the revolution, the chaotic Jacobin reign of terror, and the weak directory. Through his leadership, France was able to achieve a much more balanced and powerful state, resemblant of the France of previous great rulers, such as Louis XIV. Napoleon used his absolute authority to align France with his his vision, which was one of glory and greatness for both himself and his country. Through many consider him to be a militaristic megalomaniac, Napoleon had a deep interest in Voltairean enlightened despotism and a desire to make France great, combining to result in equality under the law and natural rights for men, as well as an improvement of the economy as a result of tax reform and banking. Inevitably, it must be conceded that Napoleon was a militaristic dictator in some regard, but his work as an enlightened despot outshines this detractor. Undou btedly, Napoleon was ambitious and power hungry. He is quoted as saying, Power is my mistress. I have worked too hard in conquering her to allow anyone to take her from me, or even to covet her (Herold). This describes his attitude toward power well. Don Barry Minkow s Fake Insurance Restoration Business

After reading the case, it was truly fascinating how a very young man, Barry Minkow, could pull off such a huge fraud and how greed and audaciousness can make someone become so unethical. The fact that a young man had a goal and would do everything and anything to make sure he reaches his goal led him to commit fraud through his fake insurance restoration business. It all started when he was 15 years old and was driven to be successful, so he began a carpet cleaning business but soon came to realize that he would make it big if he were in the insurance restoration business. The way he gained customers for his business was by calling channel 4 in Los Angeles, pretending to be a fact customer, and explaining to them how the 16-year-old owner†¦show more content†¦This shows that Minkow is an egoist because his only concern was himself and how he could benefit himself and did everything to make sure he was continuing to make money. He defies the 6 Pillars of Character, which are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. As the case was briefly explained Barry broke each pillar by lying to everyone and creating the phony company. He was also lying about his revenue and overcharging customers for services, which is unfair because he is stealing from people who trusted him. He had the responsibility to do what was right and didn’t because he didn’t care about anyone but himself and becoming successful. Also the auditors never looked at construction contracts, issues, and whether ZZZZ Best had the necessary permits to do the work. This shows the auditors failed to exercise professional skepticism. Cadbury Crush free essay sample

Since 1985, Crush repositioned itself to target individuals between the ages of 12-17. Appendix D shows that Pepsi Co. and Minute Maid entered the market with their own orange soda brands capturing a large portion of the orange soda market. These new juggernaut competitors reduced Crush’s market share consistently each year by positioning themselves in the 15-30 year old market. Initially, we thought it would be wise for Crush to revert back to its’ original target market, however with the emergence of Pepsi Co. s Slice and Coca Cola’s Minute Maid into the market, and the fact that both brands are targeting individuals roughly between the ages of 15-30 (Crushes’ previous target market) (Exhibit 8), we believe it would be best for Crush to make an adjustment to their current positioning strategy. Shifting from their current age range (teens 12-17)(Exhibit 13) to younger children between the ages of 6-16 would tap into a market segment not currently being pu rsued by the new dominant Orange Soda companies. This shift would differentiate Crush even further from their competition, and as a result lead to more market share capture potential and competitive advantage due to the fact that they will be the first major orange soda brand to enter into this new target market. Secondly, the alignment with a younger age bracket comes less of a say the actual consumers (young kids) have in the purchase of this product which is why Crush needs to promote the fact that their formula includes 10% real juice, making it more appealing to the actual purchasers of the households (parents). We know that Slice and Minute Maid have already positioned themselves as a healthier choice, but within their market (p. 323). The fact that Crush has natural juice will encourage parents to purchase the brand that their kids will love. Placing an emphasis on the natural flavor in print and media advertisements will reassure parents that they are making a healthy choice for their kids. 2. Based on your analysis, what objectives should be set for the Crush advertising and promotion program? What strategies should be pursued? Crush’s first objective should be to continue repairing the relationships with the bottling network and build relationships with retailers. Crush should also increase spot marketing in areas most associated with children. Also, since Orange Crush’s main issue is that they are no longer uniquely differentiated among their competitors in the orange soda market, we feel the main objective should be to reposition the brand with respect to a younger age bracket (6-16). Finally, an integrated marketing communications strategy tying into the interests of the younger age bracket will be implemented. In terms of advertising, Crush should incorporate their promotion strategies into end of aisle displays in supermarkets and television commercials. Because a brand can be locked out of about 60% of supermarket soft drink volume, it is important to involve the grocery retailers in a push marketing strategy by offering incentives to display Orange Crush in end aisle displays. Orange Slice and Minute Maid use promotional mediums such as magazines, newspapers, and billboards on the sides of roads (all places that reach THEIR target market). In order to grab the attention of the Crush brands’ new young target market, Crush should focus on advertising on key television channels (i. e. : Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network) during prime cartoon watching hours, such as Saturday morning and after-school. Eye-catching end of aisle display in grocery stores including their popular cultural icon of the time will attract the attention of younger kids to their product. To grab the attention of the household purchasers (parents), coupons should be included in grocery store flyers to further enrich consumer value when considering Orange Crush for purchase. Crush needs to change their distribution strategy. Exhibit 7 shows that Sunkist, Slice, and Minute Maid all had much broader distribution coverage than Crush (exhibit 7). As a result the 3 brands enjoyed a much higher market share capture percentage than Crush (exhibit 5). This is due to the fact that Crush switched from bottling companies to warehouses as their primary means for distributing their product. Crush is in the process of re-establishing and expanding its relationship with bottling companies and it appears that the bottling network will be repaired to the point that Crush would be represented in 75% of the total orange category in time for the re-launch of the Crush brand. They need to engage in strategic meetings with marketing and sales representatives of both Crush and the bottling companies to develop an overview of the new positioning campaign. These relationships are key to Crush’s ability to regain market share and vastly improve their marketing coverage. Bringing the bottlers in to help develop the labeling and bottling to reposition Crush toward a younger demographic will not only help bridge the relationship, but introduce valuable insight into the new marketing campaign. An additional approach may be to involve a youthful cultural personality to endorse the product, such as a cartoon character. For example, placing â€Å"The Lorax† character, for instance, on the Crush label and have â€Å"The Lorax† star in Crush commercials will align Crush with the most popular children’s cultural icon within the new target market and could be the final piece in creating a truly integrated marketing communications package. 3. How much should be spent on advertising and promotion to re-launch the Crush brand (i. . , total dollar media expenses)? Be specific and be sure to base your recommended spending on facts provided in the case Our recommendation for the advertising and promotion budget is based around two separate areas: Historical trends and advertising/promotion expenses expressed as a percent of total sales relative to what Pepsi and Coca Cola are doing. First, in regard to historical trends, in 1985, Crush captured 22% of the market sh are while spending 25. 2%, or $4,371,200. 0 on advertising expenses, earning total sales revenues of $17,345,680. 00. This occurred without the presence of Pepsi and Coca Cola competing in their target market. Due to our repositioning strategy, Crush will once again be targeting a segment where there is little competition. This will set the conditions for an environment similar to what Crush operated in during 1985. In 1989 Coca Cola’s Slice captured 21% of the market share, and Pepsi’s Minute Maid captured 14% of the market share. The average advertising expenditures expressed as a % of total sales revenue spent by Pepsi and Coca Cola was 24. 4%. What does this mean for Crush? If Crush mimicked the successful advertising expenditures of Pepsi and Coca Cola, this 24. 4% would be a 15. 3% increase from what Crush is currently spending on advertising expressed as a % of their total sales revenue. An increase of $3,101,840 on advertising expenditures to around $5,000,000 will allow us to reach our goal of an 11% market share. Based on our estimates, a conservative 3% increase in market share from 1989 will increase our net profit by $622,180 to an estimated $12,543,440. Our prediction and recommendation is that with this increased advertising budget, relative to what Coke and Pepsi spend on advertising will bring about an increase in total market share for Crush. Historically, when Crush had few competitors in their market, they spent more money on advertising (as a % of sales revenue), and experienced a higher market share captured percentage. Currently, Pepsi and Coca Cola are doing very well, in terms of market share capture with their current % of sales advertising expenditures. If Crush reflects the same relative spending on advertising in relation to their total sales revenue, Crush will experience a higher market share capture percentage. If Crush goes with our recommendation to align itself with this younger age bracket, they will again have fewer companies competing in their target market, adding to the effectiveness of the recommended advertising budget. Furthermore, in 1985 when Crush was spending roughly 25% of total sales on advertising, they experienced a relatively high market share capture percentage related to other competitors. Once again, with the new positioning strategy the conditions will be set for a competitive environment similar to the one experienced by Crush in 1985 (moving away from competing with big Pepsi and Coke, and competing in an arena in which there are fewer competitors) and with our new projected advertising budget, 24. 4% of total sales revenue which one, reflects the relative spending on advertising by Coke and Pepsi which led to their success in acquiring a majority market share, and two, is almost equal to the percentage of total revenue spent on advertising in 1985 by Crush, a year in which they were very successful in capturing 22% of the market share given their competitive environment). The correct amount of spending based on the competitive environment within the target market is what’s im portant here, not necessarily the most amount of spending on advertising/promotion.

Swot Analysis Student Payment Method

OBJECTIVE The aim of the SWOT analysis is to have a deep insight into the modification of the payment system by addition of an extra functionality which may be called a Reverse ATM which accepts direct cash from the students and is available at various location within the campus. Distant learning students may also take advantage of quick and efficient payment system. This analysis will highlight the strengths of the University and the payment system also having an analysis of the weakness which might be a drawback in the lifetime of the system. The external opportunities would be harnessed for the benefit of the system and the threats should be taken care of (Helms, 2010). SWOT Template Organization:Charles Strut UniversityDate: DD/MM/YYY Description ofcurrent/newICT service The current ICT service regarding Student payment method of Charles Strut University incorporates various modes of payment. The students can pay via internet banking using Master or Visa cards. Students can also transfer the money via the service of BPAY which is exclusively for Australia. These might be one of the safest methods for payment transfer. However, payment can also be made in person or by mail at different locations at campus. These methods may be vulnerable or time consuming for payment and may call for several breaches or threats. Description of the modification/change/update in the current ICT service: The update and modification visioned for this student payment method it to install machines in replacement of in person or mail payment mode. The in person payment mode requires trained staff and personnel and is time consuming too. Also, the mode of mail is not reliably safe and might be illegal for transfer of some sensitive information either by will or by mistake. The new machines installed would act as a reverse ATM for intake of money and immediate transaction. This service would be installed at various places within the campus and would accept cash payment which is safest mode.If any student wishes to pay via money order or cheque the, a trained machine operator would do the required conversions making the use of the machine and the transfer mode for timely and effective payment to the University. The clause of not sending payment via cash will be removed by this method. STRENGTHS Innovative solutions for synchronizing organizations capabilities with the mushrooming advancements in technology. Ease of use and timely efficient payment leads to student satisfaction and retention. The competency and skills of IT department making execution simpler. Attractive feature for users and learning aspirants by full resource exploitation. A strong University image and a strong IT department.m WEAKNESSES Possibility of problem for distant learning students. Management of initial setup and innovation cost Discrepancies may lead to fall in competitive Implementation time OPPORTUNITIES Scope for research and development. Development of innovative mobile solutions for payment Increased student enrollment with ease of access Incoming opportunities for expansion and technological advancement. An edge over other modes of payment and a competitive advantage. THREATS Environmental protection standard and sustainability The changing market demands and dynamic scenario New regulations or law policies pertaining to payment to Universities Security and privacy breaches Response from students or users in the course of time. Summary and Recommendations: The SWOT analysis focuses over this innovative solution of reverse engineering called reverse ATM to input the payment into the machine for an instant validation and update into the University records. This technology is competent with the emerging world class technologies with efficiency and timely nature of the machine. The skills for development of the IT department are strikingly wonderful and hence this idea can be effectively mapped with the blueprint and the implementation. This might enrich the position of the University and in turn call for increased number of aspirants. On the other side there are weakness for the system, that the students enrolled with distant learning may not directly use the machines but can transfer that money with other methods to use the machine. The initiation setup cost is high and the input for the machine both in the terms of management or technical are necessary. The time for implementation can also exceed which can cause problems. For this, the present system should not be curbed completely. Moreover, failure possibility can also affect the system. The external opportunities like enhancement in scope of research and further advancements in IT department can be hoped with the further development. In future there can be a scope for mobile solutions for the similar technology and some innovative applications for the payment system. This is surely a competitive advantage for the university over others. There are threats also for the system such as changes in some payment policy which may call for modifications or some security breaches which may incur into the system due to hackers etc. These machines may also prove to be hazardous for the environment and hence may be tested for sustainability. Short Term (Now) The current proposed plan is an excellent implementation in regard with the payment model and the strategic goal of easy and efficient payment strategy using direct cash payment and automation. The short term plans are to innovate, develop, implement and wait for the feedback of this new system. The service proposed in by far advantageous but a deep insight over the threats and weakness is equally essential. Mid Term (next 12 months) The strengths of the Institute lies in a strong and intellectual IT department and a brand name for the University. These strengths may be exploited to open up further doors for external opportunities like tie-ups or mergers with other nearby Universities and making up a campus or hub of IT intellectuals to innovate something special for use or modify the existing technologies for the benefit of all. However, in next 12 months focus should be set over further development and refinement of this service and experimentation in other areas too. Long Term (next 3 to 5 years) For a long term accomplishment of the modification of the payment system, the new changes need to be sustained and maintained. Any technological modification should be incorporated. The machine can be made totally independent in its function. The staff of the campus would be familiar with the functioning and may handle any kind of query regarding that. With an expectation of enhancement in number of students and as a result number of users for the machine, the machine should remain consistent with the multi-user approach and real time transaction.

Oedipus Essays (826 words) - Sophocles, Oedipus, Operas, Hero

Oedipus Sophocles is perhaps one of the greatest tragedians ever. Sophocles said that a man should never consider himself fortunate unless he can look back on his life and remember that life without pain. For Oedipus Rex, looking back is impossible to do without pain. This pain stems from his prideful life. Oedipus is aware that he alone is responsible for his actions. Oedipus freely chooses to pursue and accept his own life's destruction. Even though fate victimizes Oedipus, he is a tragic figure since his own heroic qualities, his loyalty to Thebes, and his fidelity to the truth ruin him. Oedipus pride, strung from his own heroic qualities, is one factor that ruined him. A hero prizes above all else his honor and the excellence of his life. When his honor is at stake, all other considerations become irrelevant. The hero valued strength and skill, courage and determination, for these attributes enabled the person who possessed them to achieve glory and honor, both in his lifetime and after he died (Rosenburg 38). Oedipus was certainly a hero who was exceptionally intelligent though one can argue that killing four men at Phokis single-handedly more than qualified him as a physical force of reckoning. He obviously knew his heroic status when he greeted the supplicating citizens of Thebes before the palace doors saying, I would not have you speak through messengers, and therefore I have come myself to hear you - I, Oedipus, who bear the famous name(Sophocles 1088). Oedipus is guilty of Hubris- that is, that he is too sure of himself, too confident in his own powers [and] a little undermindful of the gods (Brooks 573). Oedipus, a hero of superior intelligence, also displays this uncompromising attitude in his fealty to Thebes. Oedipus' loyalty to Thebes is another factor that led to the tragic figure's ruin. Aristotle explains that a tragic character is just and good, but his misfortune is brought about not by wickedness or depravity but by error, pride, or frailty. Oedip us fits this description perfectly. The story of Oedipus fascinates us because of the spectacle of a man freely choosing, from the highest motives, a series of actions which lead to his ruin. (Dodds 23). Oedipus could leave the city of Thebes and let the plague take its course but pity for the sufferings of his people compelled him to consult Delphi (Dodds 23). When Apollo's word comes back, he could leave the murder of Laius uninvestigated, but pride and justice cause him to act. Oedipus can not let a murder investigation go by without solving the riddle of who killed King Laius because his pride overpowers him. Oedipus' pride reveals itself again in his loyalty to the truth. Oedipus' constant struggle to discover the truth for the sake of his people ruined him most in the end. Even though he is warned many times to stop seeking the truth, he keeps on searching. Oedipus has to choose between his doom and an alternative which if accepted would betray the hero's own conception of him self, his rights, his duties, but in the end the hero refused to yield; he remains true to himself, to his physis (Knox 8). Therefore, one can see Oedipus' need to uncover the truth about Laius and then about himself as proof of his commitment to uphold his own nature, pride. Oedipus' quest for the truth fits his self image as a man of action, the revealer of truth, and the solver of riddles(Knox 28). He cannot live with a lie, and therefore must learn the truth behind the illusion he has lived for so long. Teiresias, Iokaste, and the herdsman all try to stop Oedipus, but he must read the last riddle, that of his own life. As the truth unfolds, the people of Thebes see Oedipus as prideful and overweening, and they call on Zeus to correct his pride (Sewall 36). The hero's conscious choice to pursue and accept his doom makes him a tragic figure. Oedipus Rex single-handedly ruined his own life through his overweening pride. Oedipus' pride as a hero, a loyal King, and a truth seeker tur ned him into a tragic figure. He is a victim of fate, but

Application Leadership Essay Sample PDF

Application Leadership Essay Sample PDFThe leadership essay sample PDF is often used by universities and colleges to assess the students' knowledge about leadership, and how they can apply it to their own situations. It is also a very useful tool in helping students identify what they need to study or learn more about, before starting college. The purpose of this essay is to identify the most important aspect of leadership and develop an understanding of what the student needs to do as an individual, as well as how to apply that knowledge to their own situations. A great example is the review of Alpha and Omega in Greek mythology. In order to truly understand this concept, you need to know that all things have two opposite sides or poles. Therefore, the first step for leadership development is to identify which of the two sides of the alpha and omega, will better benefit you as an individual. It is important to identify your own goals and ambitions in order to answer the second part of the question 'What is the difference between Alpha and Omega?'Alpha is the direction, where Alpha leads the character to its highest potential. The word 'alpha' can be translated to mean two different things in English. One of them is 'First,' which means 'The Leader's Position'; the other is 'Bright,' which is another translation for 'Contain.'Therefore, if we translate 'Alpha' into English we get 'First Contain,' which represents the 'potential' of the leader. The end result of this is that the student will be the one who will be 'First' when it comes to leadership in the class and will be the one who will know what is best for his/her character and personal situation. In order to be the bright side of alpha, the student must learn to be 'Bright' as well. Brightness is exactly opposite of dark, which is known as 'Darkness.' Because of this, the student must learn to harness the power of the sun and use it correctly. As an example, if the student has a conversation with the person h e/she knows in the class and he/she had told the student the truth, the student would either be 'Bright'Darkness.' If the student is using the power of light and telling the student the truth, the student will be 'Bright' because he/she did not lie. However, if the student was using the power of darkness and told the student the truth, the student will be 'Darkness' because he/she lied. The application leadership essay sample PDF can be useful to individuals, whether they are looking for guidance about their own situation or for help with how to build themselves to the top. Knowing the difference between the two is the key to success in the world of leadership.

Woolly Worm Caterpillars and Winter Forecasts and Folklore

Woolly Worm Caterpillars and Winter Forecasts and Folklore Every October, NOAAs Climate Prediction Center releases a winter outlook to give the public the best possible scientific prediction of how the winter may shape up across the nation; but in the pre-NOAA days, folks got this same information from a more humble sourcethe Woolly Bear caterpillar.  Ã‚   Called woolly bears in the Midwest and Northeast, and woolly worms in the Southern U.S., Woolly Bear caterpillars are the larvae of Isabella tiger moths. Theyre common to the United States, northern Mexico, and the southern third of Canada, and are easily recognized by their short, stiff bristles of reddish-brown  and black fur. How to Read a Woollys Colors According to folklore, the woolly worms coloring is said to indicate how severe  the coming winter will be in the local area  where the caterpillar  is found.  The Woolly Bear caterpillars body  has 13 distinct segments. According to weather lore, each one corresponds to one of the 13 weeks of winter. Each black band  represents one week of colder, snowier, and more severe winter conditions, whereas orange bands indicate  that many weeks of milder temperatures. (Some even believe that the position of the bands which part of winter. For example, if the tail end of the caterpillar is black, it means that winters end will be severe.)  Ã‚   Two other versions  of this folklore exist. The first relates the severity of winter to  the thickness of the caterpillars coat. (Thicker coats signal  colder winters, and a sparse coat, milder winters.)  The final  variation deals with the direction in which the caterpillar  crawls. (If a woolly crawls in a southerly direction it means hes trying to escape the cold winter conditions of the north. If he travels on a northward path, that indicates a mild winter.)    Significance of Solid-Colored Woolly Worms Not all woolly worms have alternating orange  and black markings. Occasionally, youll spot one thats all brown, all black, or solid white. Like their brown and black relatives, they too have : Orange:  Just as reddish-brown segments signal a week of mild temperatures, an all brown caterpillar  suggests  an overall mild winter with above-normal temperatures and insignificant snowfall.Black: An all black caterpillar  signals the onset of a very hard upcoming winter.White (sand-colored): White woolly worms are said to predict winter snowfall. Spotting one is supposedly a strong indicator that heavier than average snows   or even a blizzard   can be expected in the region during the winter season.   How Fame Found the Woolly Worm The woolly worms talent was first discovered in the late 1940s by Dr. Charles Curran, former curator of insects at New York City’s Museum of Natural History. As the story goes, Dr. Curran measured the coloration of woolly bear caterpillars between 1948 and 1956  at  Bear Mountain State Park. During those years, he found that 5.3 to 5.6 of the observed caterpillars 13 body segments were  orange. As his counts suggested, the winters for each of those years turned out to  indeed be  mild.  A reporter friend of Currans leaked his  forecasts to a NYC newspaper,  and  the  publicity the story  generated made woolly  bear caterpillars a household name. Is the Folklore True? Dr. Curran found that the width of reddish-brown fur correctly matched the winter type with 80% accuracy. While his data samples were small, for some people this was enough to legitimize  the folklore.  However, for the majority of todays  professionals, it isnt sufficient data. They argue that not only is a woolly bears coloring  based on its age and species, but also  that it would take researching an awful lot of caterpillars in one place over a great many years in order to make any conclusions about  woollys and  winter weather. One thing most can agree on is that regardless of whether or not the folklore is true,  its a harmless and fun autumn tradition to take part in. When and Where  to Spot  Woolly Worms Woolly worms are usually seen  in autumn  on sidewalks and  roadways.  If you do meet one, dont expect it to hang around for long. Woollys are busy creatures, always on-the-go  searching for a cozy home underneath a rock or log to overwinter in. They  move  pretty fast too (as worms go)!  Ã‚   One sure-fire  way to meet a woolly is to attend a  woolly worm festival. 2016  Woolly Worm Festivals Like  the  groundhog, woolly worms have become so  popular, several festivals have sprouted up across the United States to honor them. The  longest-running festivals are celebrated in:   Vermilion, Ohio. Ohios annual  Woollybear Festival  is one of the longest-running in the US. The festival started more than four decades ago, when  TV weatherman, Mr. Dick Goddard, proposed the idea of a celebration built around using the worm to forecast the upcoming winter. He still hosts the festival to this day.  This years festival is scheduled to be held October 2, 2016. Banner Elk, North  Carolina.  Held every third weekend in October.  This years 39th Annual Woolly Worm festival dates are October 15-16, 2016.   Beattyville, Kentucky. Beattyvilles Woolly Worm Festival is always the last full weekend in October.  This years 29th annual festival will take place October 21-23,  2016.   Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Currently in its 19th year, this years festival will take place on October 15, 2016. If youre a fan of woolly worm festivals, let us also recommend these weather-focused festivals.

George Catlin, Biography of Painter of Native Americans

George Catlin, Biography of Painter of Native Americans The American artist George Catlin became fascinated with Native Americans in the early 1800s and traveled extensively throughout North America so he could document their lives on canvas. In his paintings and writings, Catlin portrayed Indian society in considerable detail. â€Å"Catlin’s Indian Gallery,† an exhibit which opened in New York City in 1837, was an early opportunity for people living in an eastern city to appreciate the lives of the Indians still living freely and practicing their traditions on the western frontier. The vivid paintings produced by Catlin were not always appreciated in his own time. He tried to sell his paintings to the U.S. government and was rebuffed. But eventually he was recognized as a remarkable artist and today many of his paintings reside in the Smithsonian Institution and other museums. Catlin wrote of his travels. And he is credited with first proposing the idea of National Parks  in one of his books.  Catlins proposal came decades before the US government would create the first National Park. Early Life George Catlin was born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on July 26, 1796. His mother and grandmother had been held hostage during an Indian uprising in Pennsylvania known as the Wyoming Valley Massacre some 20 years earlier, and Catlin would have heard many stories about Indians as a child. He spent much of his childhood wandering in the woods and searching for Indian artifacts. As a young man, Catlin trained to be a lawyer, and he briefly practiced law in Wilkes Barre. But he developed a passion for painting. By 1821, at the age of 25, Catlin was living in Philadelphia and trying to pursue a career as a portrait painter. While in Philadelphia Catlin enjoyed visiting the museum administered by Charles Wilson Peale, which contained numerous items related to Indians and also to the expedition of Lewis and Clark. When a delegation of western Indians visited Philadelphia, Catlin painted them and decided to learn all he could of their history. In the late 1820s, Catlin painted portraits, including one of New York governor DeWitt Clinton. At one point Clinton gave him a commission to create lithographs of scenes from the newly opened Erie Canal, for a commemorative booklet. In 1828 Catlin married Clara Gregory, who was from a prosperous family of merchants in Albany, New York. Despite his happy marriage, Catlin desired to venture off see the west. Western Travels In 1830, Catlin realized his ambition to visit the west and arrived in St. Louis, which was then the edge of the American frontier. He met William Clark, who, a quarter-century earlier, had led the famed Lewis and Clark Expedition to the Pacific Ocean and back. Clark held an official position as the superintendent of Indian affairs. He was impressed by Catlin’s desire to document Indian life and provided him with passes so he could visit Indian reservations. The aging explorer shared with Catlin an extremely valuable piece of knowledge, Clark’s map of the West. It was, at the time, the most detailed map of North America west of the Mississippi. Throughout the 1830s Catlin traveled extensively, often living among the Indians. In 1832 he began to paint the Sioux, who were at first highly suspicious of his ability to record detailed images on paper. However, one of the chiefs declared that Catlin’s â€Å"medicine† was good, and he was allowed to paint the tribe extensively. Catlin often painted portraits of individual Indians, but he also depicted daily life, recording scenes of rituals and even sports. In one painting Catlin depicts himself and an Indian guide wearing the pelts of wolves while crawling in the prairie grass to closely observe a herd of buffalo. Catlins Indian Gallery In 1837 Catlin opened a gallery of his paintings in New York City, billing it as â€Å"Catlin’s Indian Gallery.† It could be considered the first â€Å"Wild West† show, as it revealed the exotic life of the Indians of the west to city dwellers. Catlin wanted his exhibit to be taken seriously as historical documentation of Indian life, and he endeavored to sell his collected paintings to the US Congress. One of his great hopes was that his paintings would be the centerpiece of a national museum devoted to Indian life. The Congress was not interested in purchasing Catlin’s paintings, and when he exhibited them in other eastern cities they were not as popular as they had been in New York. Frustrated, Catlin left for England, where he found success showing his paintings in London. Decades later, Catlins obituary on the front page of the New York Times noted that in London he had reached great popularity, with members of the aristocracy flocking to see his paintings.   Catlin’s Classic Book on Indian Life In 1841 Catlin published, in London, a book titled Letters and Notes on the Manners, Customs, and Conditions of the North American Indians. The book, more than 800 pages in two volumes, contained a vast wealth of material gathered during Catlin’s travels among the Indians. The book went through a number of editions. At one point in the book Catlin detailed how the enormous herds of buffalo on the western plains were being destroyed because robes made of their fur had become so popular in eastern cities. Perceptively noting what today we would recognize as an ecological disaster, Catlin made a startling proposal. He suggested that the government should set aside enormous tracts of western lands to preserve them in their natural state. George Catlin can thus be credited with first suggesting the creation of National Parks. His Later Life Catlin returned to the United States and again tried to get the Congress to buy his paintings. He was unsuccessful. He was swindled in some land investments and was in financial distress. He decided to return to Europe. In Paris, Catlin managed to settle his debts by selling the bulk of his collection of paintings to an American businessman, who stored them in a locomotive factory in Philadelphia. Catlin’s wife died in Paris, and Catlin himself moved on to Brussels, where he would live until returning to America in 1870. Catlin died in Jersey City, New Jersey in late 1872. His obituary in the New York Times lauded him for his work documenting Indian life and criticized the Congress for not buying his collection of paintings. The collection of Catlin paintings stored in the factory in Philadelphia was eventually acquired by the Smithsonian Institution, where it resides today. Other Catlin works are in museums around the United States and Europe.

Indigenous Peoples and Globalization Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Indigenous Peoples and Globalization - Essay Example Citing the impact, the research has also mentioned history reference to globalization and colonization in Canada; followed by discussion related to responses from indigenous people on local and international levels to retain their originality and identity from this cultural invasion of globalization. Hence, concluding to the point of various meanings that can be extracted from both terms and so varied impacts it had in pre and post colonization era in Canadian territory. The aim of research is to study the impact of cultural and social impact of globalization on indigenous people; the research has picked the North American territory that has been acknowledged for the legacy of colonialism in North America. North America has settlement of natives apart from the main system to flourish the people’s relationship to the land with all factors of spirituality and community that remained directives of their lives. First Nations, People in Canada, taken as the narrowed domain for the study of indigenous people, has historical continuity with pre-invasion and pre-colonial societies. First Nation considers themselves as different from other on the same mainly due their connectivity to the ancestral pattern of lifestyle has resisted to its best invasion from surrounding cultural factors. To United Nations Special Rapporteur of the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, as well as a set of 7 guidelines set out by the UN has been adopted as the most suiting definition for indigenous people as also refers to pre-colonial and pre-invasion system of life with link to the land and distinct culture are common features. With reference to this definition, globalization has resulted as the domination attempt from imperialist or western culture of developed nations. In case of Canada’s First Nation is Britain and France. This invasion traces its inception in mid 16th Century when European Settlers initially developed trade ties and eventually resulted in military alliances. Growing European invasion was first resisted from Royal Proclamation of 1763 to take back rights of land that was initially their own. First nation had to surrender land under treaties, creation of reservations and other land invasions that all resulted in impact on the lifestyle of the First Nation. The formal attack on the cultural and social life of indigenous people can be defined as time British self picked responsibility to develop First People with imposition of the Christianity and agriculture considering them to be superior to the hunting-gathering lifestyle of Indigenous peoples. This phase also has counts for large number of deals. Network of 132 residential schools is most reflective of intended attempt to kill the original lifestyle of inhabitants that also have examples of physical, mental, and even sexual abuses within the residential school system. In the mid-1940s First Nations leaders first officially reported the cultura l assimilation and worsened conditions in residential schools, rejected 1969 White Paper and resulted in Indian Brotherhood set up in London to lobby British MPs assuring First Nations rights are accounted within the new constitution. Other examples include Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP) and finally the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues was formed by UN assuring the voice of Indigenous pe
